\/>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\n<p>The shrinking market share of English language music on streaming services globally has been acutely highlighted by stats published by market monitor <strong>Luminate<\/strong>\u00a0in its<a href=\"https:\/\/luminatedata.com\/reports\/yearend-music-industry-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> recent Year-End report for 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Luminate, two years ago, in 2021, the annual share of English-language content among the <strong>world&#8217;s Top 10,000 streaming tracks<\/strong> (total on-demand streams inclusive of audio + video) was <strong>67%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A year later, in 2022 the share of English-language content amongst those<strong> Top 10,000 global tracks<\/strong> had fallen to <strong>62.1%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Last year (2023) it shrunk again, to <strong>54.9%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Looking at the trendlines, you&#8217;d have to assume this number is going to <strong>fall claimed <strong>45.1%<\/strong> of streams of 2023&#8217;s Top 10,000 on-demand streaming tracks globally.<\/p>\n<p>The top 5 languages last year amongst these 10,000 tracks, according to Luminate, were <strong>English<\/strong> (54.9%), <strong>Spanish<\/strong> (10.1%), <strong>Hindi<\/strong> (7.8%), <strong>Korean<\/strong> (2.4%) and <strong>Japanese<\/strong> (2.1%).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure Luminate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Interestingly, despite<strong> Latin Music&#8217;s<\/strong> continued success globally, Spanish-language music&#8217;s share of the world&#8217;s <strong>Top 10,000<\/strong> on-demand streaming tracks declined in 2023 \u2013 down from<strong> 12.4%<\/strong> in 2021 to <strong>10.1%<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n<p>But perhaps the biggest story right now in terms of this topic?<\/p>\n<p>That can be found in <strong>India<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Is India about to become The world&#8217;s biggest streaming market?<\/h6>\n<p>Luminate reports that <strong>Hindi-language<\/strong> music&#8217;s market share of the world&#8217;s <strong>Top 10,000<\/strong> streaming tracks (on-demand streams, inclusive of audio + video) more than doubled between 2021 (<strong>3.8%<\/strong>) and 2023 (<strong>7.8%<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s causing such a rapid rise in <strong>Hindi&#8217;s<\/strong> market share?<\/p>\n<p>You only have to look at the momentous increases in volume of <em>total<\/em> music streams in <strong>India<\/strong>\u00a0for your answer.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure class=\"mbw-articlepic mbw-articlepic--center\"><a Luminate 2023 year-end report<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<hr \/>\n<p>According to Luminate, India saw just over <strong>1 trillion<\/strong> total on-demand music streams (video + audio) in 2023 \u2013 <strong>1.037 trillion<\/strong>, to be more precise.<\/p>\n<p>That was the world&#8217;s second-biggest annual streaming volume by market, behind the USA (<strong>1.454 trillion plays<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>It was also nearly <em>three times<\/em> larger than the No.3 country, <strong>Brazil<\/strong> (<strong>373.5 billion<\/strong> streams).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>However, <strong>India<\/strong> saw the biggest YoY <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">increase<\/span> in total annual on-demand music streams of any nation last year: Its 2023 total stream haul was up by<strong> nearly half a trillion plays<\/strong> (<span style=\"color: #008000\"><strong>+463.7 billion)<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0vs. 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The US, by contrast, saw a YoY increase of just <span style=\"color: #008000\"><strong>184.0 billion<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>If a similar level of streaming volume occurs in these two nations in 2024, <strong>India will run the USA close<\/strong> as the world&#8217;s biggest music streaming nation in terms of total on-demand play volume this year.<\/p>\n<p>And if annual streaming volume growth in the <strong>US<\/strong> slows in the 12 months ahead, as many expect it will \u2013 but <strong>India<\/strong> can sustain its 2023 YoY streaming growth margin in 2024?<\/p>\n<p><strong>India could become the world&#8217;s of English-language content amongst the <strong>Top 10,000<\/strong> streaming tracks in the market (on-demand streams inclusive of both audio and video) decreased by <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>3.8%<\/strong><\/span> since 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Spanish-language content, meanwhile, grew <span style=\"color: #008000\"><strong>+3.8%<\/strong><\/span> in that same timeframe.<\/p>\n<p>(To clarify: Luminate says this stat reflects &#8220;streaming share&#8221; <em>amongst<\/em> the Top 10,000 tracks, rather than the share that each language claims of the Top 10,000 tracks.)<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the streaming share of English-language content amongst the <strong>Top 10,000<\/strong> streaming tracks in the US was <strong>88.8%.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This means, obviously enough, that <strong>more than one-in-ten plays<\/strong> of the most popular tracks in the US last year were of music not performed in English.<\/p>\n<p>The streaming share of Spanish-language content in the US last year, meanwhile, stood at <strong>8.1%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Six Latin Music artists achieved over 1 billion On-Demand Audio streams in the US in 2023, including Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, Eslabon Armado, Karol G, Junior H, Fuerza Regida, with each of these artists in the US Top 125 for 2023 Audio streaming.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n<a class=\"link-external\"
