Primary Wave Music has struck a music rights deal with singer, songwriter, and musician Neil Finn, founding member of rock band Crowded House.<\/p>\n
Described by Primary Wave as a “multi-million-dollar deal,” the publisher says that the agreement will see the company acquire Finn\u2019s music publishing catalog and writer\u2019s share of public performance for his work with Crowded House, as well as his solo material.<\/p>\n
As one of the founding members of Crowded House, Finn wrote and composed many of the band\u2019s biggest hits which are included in this new partnership, as well as his solo material and songs he wrote as part of the New Zealand pop\/new wave band, Split Enz.<\/p>\n
Songs include Better Be Home Soon,<\/em> Don\u2019t Dream It\u2019s Over,<\/em> Weather With You<\/em> and others.<\/p>\n Released in 1986, Don\u2019t Dream It\u2019s Over<\/em>\u00a0appeared on Crowded House\u2019s eponymous debut album.<\/p>\n Written by Finn, the single became the band\u2019s biggest hit and reached No.2 on the Hot 100. The song also went to No.1 in several countries.<\/p>\n Also included in the deal is Finn’s share of Weather With You,<\/em> written with his brother Tim from the band\u2019s third studio album. The song is one of the band\u2019s most successful singles and won a number of awards upon its release.<\/p>\n “This deal has been a good while in the making and feels right.\u201d<\/p>\n Neil Finn<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cI look forward to seeing Primary Wave\u2019s plan for the ongoing care of my songs. Not only is he a master songwriter, he is the songwriters\u2019 favorite songwriter.<\/p>\n “We look forward to working closely with Neil and his great team at Shelter Management on the next stages of his storied career.\u201d<\/p>\n Last week, Primary Wave<\/a>\u00a0acquired<\/a> a stake in the music publishing and master recording rights of US singer, songwriter and pianist Neil Sedaka.<\/p>\n Primary Wave\u2019s latest deal\u00a0arrives<\/a>\u00a0two months after the company\u00a0announced a partnership with\u00a0Y.M.C.A<\/em>\u00a0hitmakers Village People.<\/p>\n Earlier that month (February), Primary Wave moved into Brazil\u00a0via the acquisition<\/a>\u00a0of a\u00a050%<\/strong>\u00a0stake in Nas Nuvens Catalog (NNC). That transaction\u00a0valued the Sao Paulo-headquartered company at around\u00a0USD $100 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
