Premium Family now costs<strong> $19.99 per month\u00a0<\/strong> (up from $16.99), while Spotify Premium Student still costs $5.99 per month.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure class=\"mbw-articlepic year.<\/p>\n<p>The company announced in July 2023 that the price of its flagship individual subscription tier would be increasing for the first time in the US, from <strong>$9.99<\/strong> per month to $10.99, as of Monday, July 24, 2023, following widespread calls to do so from multiple music industry leaders.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the US, in July last year, Spotify increased its Premium pricing in around 50 other markets globally, such as Canada, as well as several markets across Europe, including the UK and France, plus markets in Asia, South America, and Australasia.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify\u2019s price hike last year came after most other global music streaming services, including\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/apple-music-just-raised-its-subscription-price-to-10-99-in-the-us-will-spotify-be-next1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Apple Music<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/amazon-music-raises-standard-monthly-subscription-price-from-9-99-to-10-99-spotify\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Amazon Music<\/strong><\/a>, and YouTube Music, had increased the prices of\u00a0their subscription plans.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, in April 2024, Spotify also increased the prices of its flagship Premium subscription plan in the UK, to <strong>\u00a311.99<\/strong>, up from \u00a310.99, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13285895\/Spotify-increasing-prices-Australia-need-know.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in Australia,<\/a> to AUD $13.99, up from AUD $12.99.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spotify&#8217;s latest price increases will be welcomed by record companies, as well as investors, amid SPOT&#8217;s ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-is-playing-a-dangerous-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">profitability drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Q1 (the three months to end of March), Spotify <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-subscribers-grew-by-3m-to-239m-in-q1-as-company-posts-biggest-ever-quarterly-profit\/#:~:text=News-,Spotify%20subscriber%20base%20grew%20by%203m%20to%20239m%20in%20Q1,posts%20biggest%20ever%20quarterly%20profit&amp;text=Spotify%20saw%20its%20global%20Premium,months%20to%20end%20of%20March.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted<\/a> an operating income of\u00a0<strong>\u20ac168 million ($182.41m),<\/strong> which it noted in its investor presentation in April was \u201ca new quarterly high\u201d and reflected \u201clower personnel and related costs and marketing spend\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-to-axe-over-1500-jobs-in-latest-round-of-cuts1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">slashed<\/a>\u00a0around\u00a0<strong>17%<\/strong>\u00a0of its global workforce in December, the streaming company\u2019s third round of job cuts last year.<\/p>\n<p>The company saw its global Premium Subscriber base grow to 239 million paying users in Q1, up\u00a0<b>14% YoY<\/b>, and up by\u00a0<b>3 million<\/b>\u00a0net subscribers on the\u00a0<b>236 million<\/b>\u00a0that SPOT counted at the end of the prior quarter (Q4 2023). Spotify then <a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-unveils-standalone-audiobooks-tier-for-free-users-priced-at-9-99-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> a $9.99 per month standalone audiobook tier in March in the US.<\/p>\n<p>On Spotify&#8217;s Q1 earnings call on April 23, Spotify co-founder and CEO <a class=\"link-relationship\" style=\"background: 0px 0px;color: unset !important;text-decoration: none;border-bottom: 1px dashed #ff7d00\" title=\"People &gt; Daniel Ek [501 articles]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/people\/daniel-ek\/\">Daniel Ek<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"link-internal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/a-new-music-only-subscription-tier-is-coming-to-spotify-confirms-daniel-ek-and-4-other-things-we-learned-on-the-companys-latest-earnings-call\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> that a new \u2018music-only\u2019 subscription tier is coming to the platform. The cost and launch date of that \u2018music-only\u2019 tier have not yet been confirmed yet.<\/p>\n<p>On Spotify&#8217;s landing page about its <a href=\"https:\/\/support.spotify.com\/uk\/article\/price-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">price updates<\/a>, the company writes: &#8220;As we continue to grow our platform, we are updating our Premium prices so that we can keep innovating in changing market conditions.
