In addition, I have enormous respect for his decision to take an entirely different path after so many outstanding years at UMG.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Added Grainge: &#8220;I know you\u2019re naturally wondering what comes next for the UK company. I\u2019ll be sharing that with you shortly, but today is about David. His contributions\u2014as an executive, as a leader and as a friend\u2014have always been focused on making our company a better place for our employees and our artists.&#8221;<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #1\" data-params=\"dfp_spu1\" id=\"dfp_spu1\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>Joseph has a reputation in UK circles for being a philosophical leader, with a sharp eye for the changing dynamics of the business.<\/p>\n<p>That combination was certainly on display when Joseph appeared in a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/david-joseph-we-creatively-empower-our-artists-globally-im-proud-of-that\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> rare interview with <em>Music Business Worldwide,<\/em>\u00a0published in 2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/david-joseph-we-creatively-empower-our-artists-globally-im-proud-of-that\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">that interview<\/a>, discussing the workplace culture he wanted to establish at Universal Music UK, Joseph said: \u201cI have a couple of rules at work. Don\u2019t be boring \u2013 take risks. And act in the company\u2019s interest, not your own self-interest; that\u2019s a big rule of mine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou come across a lot of people in life whose blind, naked ambition will blow anything apart in its wake. But I believe you\u2019ll never earn real loyalty that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Summing up his general gratefulness to be working in music, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/david-joseph-we-creatively-empower-our-artists-globally-im-proud-of-that\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joseph added<\/a>: &#8220;Music should never be taken for granted. We know [songs] affect people in the most extraordinary way \u2013 one that\u2019s impossible to articulate \u2013 which is why I\u2019m always a massive proponent that there\u2019s no good or bad taste in music.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There\u2019s something about tapping into the wiring of musicians, the way they communicate, which can have an incredible effect on people, some of whom have suffered loss beyond words.
