Big news from Sony Music Group’s parent company, Sony Group in Japan:<\/p>\n
Hiroki Totoki, who has led Sony Group Corporation\u2019s growth in entertainment content, has been named the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2025.<\/p>\n
Current CEO Kenichiro Yoshida<\/b>, who was appointed in February 2018, will remain as Chairman.<\/p>\n
Hiroki Totoki <\/b>previously served as President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial Officer since 2023. He will retain his position as President while adding the CEO responsibilities.<\/p>\n
The appointment was unanimously approved by Sony’s Board of Directors following a proposal from current CEO Yoshida.<\/p>\n
The leadership change comes as Sony continues its transformation from a traditional electronics manufacturer to a global entertainment and technology giant.<\/p>\n
As part of the reorganization, Sony said it will introduce a new management structure with clearer role definitions.<\/p>\n
The company will designate leaders of major business units as “Business CEOs” and those overseeing group-wide functions as “Chief Officers.”<\/p>\n
The following Chief Officers were announced alongside Totoki’s promotion:<\/p>\n
Outgoing CEO Yoshida said he proposed Totoki\u2019s appointment based on his achievements since being appointed President and COO in April 2023.<\/p>\n

Commenting on his appointment, Totoki said, “I am incredibly honored and humbled to have been entrusted with the important role of President and CEO. The strategy outlines Sony\u2019s plans over the next 10 years.<\/p>\n Sony Group is the parent company of Sony Music Group, the umbrella company for Sony\u2019s recorded music and publishing operations outside of Japan.<\/p>\n As such, it houses both\u00a0Sony Music Entertainment<\/a>\u00a0(home to Columbia,\u00a0Epic<\/a>, RCA and other labels) as well as the world\u2019s biggest music publishing company, Sony Music Publishing (led by Chairman\/CEO Jon Platt).<\/p>\n Sony Music Group (SMG) launched on August 1, 2019, and is run by its Chairman,\u00a0Rob Stringer\u00a0\u2013 who is also CEO of Sony Music Entertainment.<\/p>\n The move brought the company in line with the other majors, Universal Music Group<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Warner Music Group<\/a>, both of which also house recorded music and publishing entities as Sony\u2019s competitors.<\/p>\n\n
