Amsterdam-based investment fund Pythagoras Music Fund<\/a> has acquired the music rights catalog of veteran rock producer Kevin Shirley.<\/p>\n

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition includes publishing and producer royalties spanning Shirley’s multi-decade career working with rock icons including Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rush, Journey, Joe Bonamassa, <\/b>and Beth Hart.<\/b><\/p>\n

Shirley, nicknamed “The Caveman<\/strong>” for his raw, live recording approach, has produced Iron Maiden\u2019s last six studio albums including The Book of Souls <\/i>and Senjutsu.<\/i><\/p>\n

The South African-born producer’s catalog further diversifies Pythagoras\u2019 portfolio. The investment fund, established<\/a> in 2021, is backed by private and institutional investors who at the time committed<\/a> \u20ac100 million <\/b>(approx. USD $113 million) to acquire copyrights.<\/p>\n

Its first acquisition<\/a> was 100% of the shares in Dutch music companies Nanada Music <\/b>and Red Bullet<\/b> \u2013 home to artists including Shocking Blue<\/b>, Golden Earring<\/b> and Focus \u2013 <\/b>from Dutch music industry legend Willem van Kooten<\/b>. Van Kooten passed away<\/a> in January of this year.<\/p>\n

PMF’s van der Ree told<\/a> MBW <\/i>in 2022 that the company’s focus is \u201cvery much on acquisitions in Europe,\u201d although it has not ruled out acquisitions in the US. In January 2023, the fund purchased the Soulshock<\/b> and Karlin<\/b> catalog.<\/p>\n

Since the fund\u2019s establishment, it has represented over 35,000<\/b> music rights and master recordings including a number of No. 1 releases and well-known classics, according to its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Recent acquisitions include the catalog of Pete<\/b> Sinfield<\/b><\/a>, lyricist for King Crimson<\/b> and more; the catalog of British songwriter Dominic<\/b> Bugatti<\/b><\/a>, which includes hits like Air Supply<\/b>\u2019s\u00a0Every Woman in the World,\u00a0<\/i>and Stardust\/Daft Punk<\/b>\u2019s\u00a0Music Sounds Better With You<\/i>; and the “worldwide publishing rights\u201d to Barton Music<\/b> <\/a>and its affiliated catalogs, including the rights to some of Frank Sinatra<\/b>\u2019s performances of songs like Time After Time, All The Way <\/i>and Come Fly With Me.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
