The US last saw a price rise from Spotify in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-hikes-prices-for-premium-subscribers-in-the-us-again12345\/\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-hikes-prices-by-up-to-22-across-benelux-countries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">already quietly implemented<\/a> in select European markets in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In the Netherlands and Luxembourg, individual Premium subscriptions now cost <b>\u20ac12.99<\/b> monthly, representing an <b>18%<\/b> jump from the previous <b>\u20ac10.99 <\/b>rate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">However, new subscribers in these territories do receive a three-month free trial to the service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Family plans in the Netherlands and Luxembourg recently saw even steeper increases of <b>22%<\/b>, rising to <b>\u20ac21.99<\/b> from <b>\u20ac17.99<\/b>, while the Duo plan covering two accounts under one bill increased <b>20%<\/b> to<b> \u20ac17.99<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Belgian subscribers faced a more modest recent adjustment, with individual plans only rising <b>9% <\/b>to<b> \u20ac11.99<\/b> monthly, while family subscriptions increased <b>17%<\/b> to <b>\u20ac20.99<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Student plans across all three countries have been set at<b> \u20ac6.99<\/b>, a<b> \u20ac1<\/b> increase from the <\/i>said the changes come as music executives have long pushed for streaming platforms to raise their prices, arguing that subscription costs have failed to keep pace with inflation while offering cheaper rates compared to video streaming services like <b>Netflix<\/b> or <b>Disney+<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">As <i>MBW <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/with-latest-price-increase-netflixs-standard-account-now-costs-72-more-per-year-than-spotify-in-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed out<\/a> in a January article, Netflix\u2019s latest price increase in the US further widened the price gap between the video streaming giant and Spotify.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Netflix\u2019s Standard tier now costs US users approximately<b> $72<\/b> more per year than Spotify\u2019s individual Premium (at <b>$11.99<\/b> per month).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\"> the price hikes in the Benelux region, a source told the <i>FT <\/i>that more price increases are expected this summer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In February, <i>Bloomberg <\/i>reported that Spotify is readying the launch of a so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-to-launch-music-pro-service-with-superfan-perks-like-early-access-tickets-and-ai-remix-tool-for-up-to-5-99-more-per-month-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018<b>Music Pro\u2019<\/b>\u00a0tier<\/a>, which would include\u00a0various \u2018<b>superfan<\/b>\u2018 perks. In July last year, Spotify CEO\u00a0Daniel Ek\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/daniel-ek-talks-new-spotify-deluxe-tier-price-hikes-the-companys-relationship-with-the-music-industry-and-more-on-q2-earnings-call12\/\">told analysts<\/a>\u00a0that the company was working on a pricier \u201cdeluxe\u201d tier. The <i>FT <\/i>also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/425cbc57-fa9f-4f51-84ee-1ba57c50a15e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> about a \u201csuper-premium\u201d tier that would cost an extra<b> $6 <\/b>on top of the<b> $11<\/b> monthly fee in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Most recently, the newspaper reported, citing several executives involved in these discussions that these premium subscriptions would be different across the major platforms. And the stick element is: if you want to hear the music first, you need super premium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If confirmed, the upcoming price hikes by Spotify reflects the streaming giant\u2019s pivot toward sustainable profit margins after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/spotify-posts-1-5bn-annual-operating-profit-for-2024-as-subscriber-base-grows-to-263m-in-q41\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting<\/a>\u00a0its first full year of operating profit in 2024. Operating profit for 2024 totaled <b>\u20ac1.4 billion<\/b> ($1.495bn), reversing the <b>\u20ac446 million<\/b> loss in 2023. This allowed shareholders to enjoy diluted earnings per share of <b>\u20ac5.50<\/b> for the 2024 financial year, versus a loss per share of <b>\u20ac2.73<\/b> a year prior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spotify\u2019s positive earnings report for 2024 also helped boost the company\u2019s stock price to an all-time high of <b>$648.32<\/b> on February 13, a win for Spotify CEO <strong>Daniel<\/strong> <strong>Ek<\/strong>, who has been cashing out his shares in the streaming giant.
