Spotify<\/a> reported on April 29 that it grew its global<\/em> Premium Subscriber base to 268 million<\/strong> paying users in Q1 (the three months ended March 31).<\/p>\n That was up 12<\/strong>%\u00a0YoY<\/b><\/span>, and up by\u00a05<\/strong>\u00a0million<\/b>\u00a0net subscribers on the\u00a0263<\/strong>\u00a0million<\/b>\u00a0that SPOT counted<\/a> at the end of the prior quarter (Q4 2024).<\/p>\n The company projected that its total Premium Subscriber base will hit 273\u00a0million<\/strong> in Q2 of this year (the three months ended June 30), an addition of approximately\u00a05 million<\/strong>\u00a0net new subscribers in the quarter.<\/p>\n Ek said in his social media post today (May 27) that Europe is now home to nearly “40% of [Spotify’s] global premium subscriber base”.<\/p>\n Spotify’s most recent earnings presentation (for Q1, 2025) included a chart confirming that Europe accounted for 37% (or 99.16m) of its total subscriber base in Q1.<\/p>\n Latin America and ‘Rest of World’ accounted for 23% and 14%, respectively.<\/p>\n North America, meanwhile, accounted for 26%,<\/strong> which suggests that the platform counted 69.68 million Premium Subscribers in North America as of Q1 2025.<\/p>\n Spotify’s earnings report didn’t break out the percentage for the US and Canada individually.<\/p>\n Spotify recently said<\/a> that its US iOS app update, approved by Apple earlier this month, drove \u201ca significant increase\u201d in conversions from free to Premium subscriptions in the market.<\/p>\n Sharing the news on LinkedIn today (May 27)<\/a>, Daniel Ek said: “Once a year, we open the doors to our Stockholm HQ to welcome guests from across Europe. This year, I had the chance to take everyone through Spotify\u2019s founding journey, a story I\u2019ve told many times, but one that still feels special.<\/p>\n “What made this time different was that I also got to share a huge milestone: Spotify has now reached 100 million<\/strong> paying subscribers in Europe.”<\/p>\n “When we launched in 2008, we did so market by market, trying to explain to our partners what streaming could become. I\u2019m super proud of what we\u2019ve built and so excited about what\u2019s next. \ud83d\ude4f”<\/p>\n In Europe, Spotify<\/a> recently implemented<\/a> price increases for subscribers across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.<\/p>\n This marks the second major price adjustment for Spotify in the Benelux region since July 2023 when the company\u00a0rolled out<\/a>\u00a0price increases across North America, Europe, and Asia.<\/p>\n In the\u00a0Netherlands<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Luxembourg<\/a>, an individual subscription now costs\u00a0\u20ac12.99\u00a0<\/b>(USD $14.81 at the current exchange rate), up\u00a018%<\/b>\u00a0from \u20ac10.99.<\/p>\n The price increase in the Benelux region now exceeds the prices of Spotify\u2019s services in larger neighboring economies.
