Stat Of the Week is supported by\u00a0music data analytics firm\u00a0<a class=\"link-external\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/chartmetric.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Chartmetric<\/a>.\r\n\r\n<hr \/>\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\n<p>Spotify has been publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/12m-artists-uploaded-music-to-spotify-last-year-less-than-0-6-generated-10000-or-more-in-royalties1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Loud &amp; Clear<\/em> stats<\/a> in recent weeks that show the value of royalties generated on its platform by artists from various individual markets last year.<\/p>\n<p>Today (Wednesday, May 28), Spotify revealed that artists from across the <strong>EU<\/strong> region generated over<strong> \u20ac1.7 billion<\/strong> (USD $1.83bn) on Spotify in 2024, a<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong> 15% year-on-year<\/strong><\/span> increase. According to Spotify, that \u20ac1.7 billion figure for 2024 was nearly double the total of 2020 and more than triple that of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The EU-wide stat follows yesterday&#8217;s news that Spotify has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/daniel-ek-confirms-spotify-has-reached-100m-paying-subscribers-in-europe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">officially reached 100 million<\/a> paying subscribers in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify noted on Wednesday that 2024 was the second year in a row that the streamer &#8220;captured artist royalty payments from across Europe at large&#8221;.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__tweeny hidden-xs hidden-ms hidden-sm\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"992 1200 1440\" data-name=\"628x90 Sponsor banner #3 (992+1200+1440)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor3_628\" id=\"dfp_sponsor3_628\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__banner mb-advert__banner--inline hidden-xs hidden-sm hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"480\" data-name=\"468x60 Sponsor banner #3 (480)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor3_468\" id=\"dfp_sponsor3_468\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__mobile mb-advert__mobile--inline hidden-ms hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"320 768\" data-name=\"300x50 Sponsor banner #3 (320+768)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor3_300\" id=\"dfp_sponsor3_300\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>Spotify released other stats as part of its EU-specific Loud &amp; Clear data set, including that over<strong> 17,000<\/strong> European artists generated over <strong>\u20ac10,000<\/strong> ($10,800) on its platform last year, with more than 27,000 European artists generating over <strong>\u20ac5,000 <\/strong>($5,400).<\/p>\n<p>Spotify claims that it &#8220;continues to enable artists across Europe to make a living from their art&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><figure class=\"mbw-articlepic mbw-articlepic--right\"><img  class=\"lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-28-at-13.52.28-80x89.jpg 80w, https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-28-at-13.52.28-160x179.jpg 160w, https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-28-at-13.52.28-320x358.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05-28-at-13.52.28-418x467.jpg 418w\" data-sizes=\"auto\"><\/figure><p>&#8220;In 2024, EU artists generated a record-breaking \u20ac1.7 billion on platform alone &#8211; a figure that has almost doubled since 2020.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Federica Tremolada<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, Spotify&#8217;s EU report also highlighted a significant level of localized listening in Europe itself. Spotify says that <strong>44%<\/strong> of all royalties generated in the EU were from EU artists in 2024 \u2013 the highest level since the platform&#8217;s data records began (2017-2024).<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, over half (57%) of all royalties generated by EU artists in 2024 were by artists who perform in a non-English language. Spotify reported that this was also the highest the platform has seen since its records began (2017-2024).<\/p>\n<p>Spotify reports that seven of the top 10 performing languages on its platform are European languages: Spanish, German, Portuguese, French, Italian, Dutch and Swedish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/italian-language-music-now-part-of-the-100m-club-on-spotify\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As reported last week<\/a>, for the first time, Italian-language music joined the \u201c<strong>$100 million-plus<\/strong>\u201d club last year, that is, those languages whose music generates at least $100 million in royalties per year.<\/p>\n      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #3\" data-params=\"dfp_spu3\" id=\"dfp_spu3\"><\/div>      <\/div>      \n<p>Spotify also highlighted a bunch of stats from key European markets, including:<\/p>\n<h6>France<\/h6>\n<p>Spotify reports that the number of French artists who generated over \u20ac100,000 ($108,000) in royalties from Spotify alone in 2024 has more than quadrupled since 2017, and more than tripled since 2018.<\/p>\n<p>French artists were also responsible for 70% of the tracks that were featured on Spotify France\u2019s Daily top 50 in 2024, highlighting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/frances-recorded-music-revenues-reached-1-1bn-in-2024-as-exports-soared-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ongoing trend of<\/a> localized listening preferences in the market.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Germany<\/h6>\n<p>In 2024, German artists were discovered nearly<strong> 6.9 billion<\/strong> times on Spotify, according to the platform, &#8220;with over half of all royalties generated in 2024 being independent artists or labels&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Spotify reported earlier this month that royalties generated by German artists on Spotify reached <strong>$520 million<\/strong> in 2024, up <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>17% YoY.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Belgium<\/h6>\n<p>Spotify has also released market-specific stats for Belgium, reporting that over <strong>80%<\/strong> of all royalties generated by Belgian artists on Spotify in 2024 were from listeners outside of Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>The platform also reported that Belgian artists were discovered by first-time listeners over <strong>600 million<\/strong> times on Spotify last year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Denmark<\/h6>\n<p>According to Spotify, 192 artists across Denmark generated more than 500k DKK\u00a0 (USD $72,505) in royalties from Spotify alone in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Danish artists also generated over 334M DKK (USD $48.4m) in royalties from Spotify alone in 2024 \u2013 a number that Spotify reports has nearly doubled since 2017 and increased by <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>8% YoY<\/strong><\/span> from 2023 to 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEurope and European creators are a crucial part of Spotify&#8217;s DNA. Streams of female European artists have soared\u2014up 83% globally over the past four years\u2014and through our EQUAL program, more than 200 European female artists have gained vital visibility, mentorship, and support.
