Now, the company is setting its sights on another tech giant: Meta Platforms, owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.<\/p>\n<p>In a lawsuit filed on Friday (May 30) in a federal court in Michigan, the company \u2013 which owns publishing rights to 243 Eminem songs but is not affiliated with Eminem himself \u2013 alleged that Meta engaged in \u201crampant infringement\u201d of Eight Mile\u2019s copyrights by making Eminem\u2019s music available in its platforms\u2019 music libraries without a license for the songs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__tweeny hidden-xs hidden-ms hidden-sm\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"992 1200 1440\" data-name=\"628x90 Sponsor banner #5 (992+1200+1440)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor5_628\" id=\"dfp_sponsor5_628\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__banner mb-advert__banner--inline hidden-xs hidden-sm hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"480\" data-name=\"468x60 Sponsor banner #5 (480)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor5_468\" id=\"dfp_sponsor5_468\"><\/div>      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__mobile mb-advert__mobile--inline hidden-ms hidden-md hidden-lg\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-sizes=\"320 768\" data-name=\"300x50 Sponsor banner #5 (320+768)\" data-params=\"dfp_sponsor5_300\" id=\"dfp_sponsor5_300\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite their not being licensed, the recordings of the Eight Mile Compositions have been reproduced and synchronized with visual content on Meta\u2019s platforms across millions of videos, which have been viewed billions of times,\u201d lawyers for Eight Mile wrote in the complaint filed with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeta\u2019s years-long and ongoing infringement of the Eight Mile Compositions is another case of a trillion (with a \u2018T\u2019) dollar company exploiting the creative efforts of musical artists for the obscene monetary benefit of its executives and shareholders without a license and without regard to the rights of the owners of the intellectual property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meta Platforms has not yet filed a response to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #1\" data-params=\"dfp_spu1\" id=\"dfp_spu1\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Faced with the problem of social media users uploading music to their posts without authorization, many social media companies, including Meta, have established licensed music libraries from which users can select music to use in videos and other media. However, Eight Mile says Meta never licensed the Eminem songs in which it owns rights \u2013 and the publisher alleges that Meta was aware of this.<\/p>\n<p>It alleges that in late 2020, Meta negotiated a deal with digital music royalty collection agency <strong>Audiam<\/strong> (now owned by the <strong>Harry Fox Agency<\/strong>) for a library of music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough Audiam did not have the authority to enter into any license on behalf of Eight Mile Style, Meta tried to negotiate, unsuccessfully, an Eight Mile Style license as part of the first Audiam license,\u201d stated the complaint, which can be read in full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/files\/2025\/06\/Eight-Mile-Style-v-Meta.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeta knew that no license was granted by Audiam or Eight Mile Style as part of those negotiations, and the Audiam license with Meta contained no reference to the Eight Mile Style Compositions.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMeta\u2019s years-long and ongoing infringement of the Eight Mile Compositions is another case of a trillion (with a \u2018T\u2019) dollar company exploiting the creative efforts of musical artists for the obscene monetary benefit of its executives and shareholders without a license and without regard to the rights of the owners of the intellectual property.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eight Mile Style, in a legal complaint against Meta Platforms<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Eight Mile\u2019s complaint says that after the publisher brought the issue to Meta\u2019s attention, the social media company \u201cremoved several of the Eight Mile Compositions from its Music Libraries\u2026 including <em>Lose Yourself<\/em>.
