US President Donald Trump disclosed on Sunday (June 29) that he has secured a buyer for TikTok\u2019s US business, but declined to identify the group of purchasers, saying he will confirm the details within two weeks.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Fox News\u2019 Sunday Morning with Maria Bartiromo, <\/i><\/a>Trump described the potential acquirer as “a group of very wealthy people,\u201d without revealing their identities or the financial terms of the deal.<\/p>\n Trump told Bartiromo in the interview: \u201cWe have a buyer for Tiktok<\/b>, by the way. I think I\u2019ll need probably China approval and I think President Xi [Jinping] will probably do it.\u201d<\/p>\n The interview was recorded on Friday (June 27) and was aired on Sunday.<\/p>\n The president\u2019s statement came over a week after he issued another 90-day reprieve<\/a> for TikTok, signing an executive order to postpone the enforcement of a law that would force ByteDance<\/b> to sell its TikTok US operations or face a ban in the market.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a buyer for Tiktok<\/b>, by the way. Speaking to reporters at the time, Trump said: \u201cProbably have to get China approval but I think we\u2019ll get it. I think President Xi will ultimately approve it,\u201d\u00a0Reuters<\/i>\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n TikTok went offline for over 170 million US users on January 18 ahead of the first deadline after the Supreme Court upheld the divest-or-ban law. Google and Apple also removed<\/a> TikTok from their app stores to comply with the law.<\/p>\n However, less than 24 hours after TikTok\u00a0switched off<\/a>\u00a0its service, the platform\u00a0restored<\/a>\u00a0its service on January 19 after Trump provided the \u201cnecessary clarity and assurances\u201d to its service providers. Trump took oath as president the following day.<\/p>\n The divest-or-ban law, signed by former US President Joe Biden, has drawn interest from several potential buyers. Amazon<\/b><\/a>, Oracle<\/b><\/a>, and a group including<\/a> billionaire Frank McCourt<\/b> and Employer.com<\/b> founder Jesse Tinsley<\/b> are reportedly in the running.
