Universal Music Greater China (UMGC) has signed a new partnership with Mandopop artist David Tao and his company GREAT Entertainment, further expanding its presence in the Greater China region.<\/p>\n

As part of the deal, UMG will provide the Taiwanese singer-songwriter and GREAT Entertainment <\/b>access to the music giant\u2019s global infrastructure and creative network.<\/p>\n

The partnership coincides with the release of Tao\u2019s eighth studio album, STUPID POP SONGS<\/i>, his first full-length project since 2012.<\/p>\n

Tao released his self-titled debut album, David Tao, <\/i>in 1997. It won Golden Melody Awards for Best New Artist and Best Producer, while Billboard recognized him as Best Asian Singer Songwriter. The album’s track Love, Very Simple <\/i>was covered by British artist Stewart Mac.<\/p>\n

UMG says Tao\u2019s three albums, David Tao<\/i>,\u00a0I\u2019m OK<\/i>, and\u00a0Black Tangerine <\/i>are among \u201cthe most influential works in Mandopop history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to the deal with UMG, Tao previously signed<\/a> a deal with Warner Chappell Music.<\/p>\n

The latest partnership arrives as UMG continues to expand its presence in Greater China. The company inked deals with pop megastar\u00a0Jay Chou<\/b>\u00a0and local labels like\u00a0Modern Sky<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0TF Entertainment<\/b><\/a>, UMGC became the\u00a0official recorded music partner<\/a>\u00a0of the TV talent show\u00a0Rap of China\u00a0<\/i>in October last year.<\/p>\n

Under Xu, UMG last year opened a\u00a0new division\/office<\/a>\u00a0in China\u2019s Greater Bay Area; it\u2019s headquartered in the city of\u00a0Shenzhen,<\/b>\u00a0also dubbed as \u201cChina\u2019s Silicon Valley.\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, UMGC announced\u00a0an exclusive global agreement with\u00a0Liu Huan<\/b>, a legendary artist in the Chinese pop music scene for four decades renowned domestically as the \u201cKing of Chinese Pop\u201d.
