Under the rule \u2014 which represented an n update to the FTC\u2019s\u00a0<b>1973 Negative Option Rule<\/b> \u2014 companies would have been prohibited from charging consumers without informed consent and required to clearly disclose terms before collecting billing information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">      <div class=\"mb-advert__incontent\">      <div class=\"mb-advert mb-advert__spu\" data-loaded=\"no\" data-name=\"300x250 Sponsor MPU #2\" data-params=\"dfp_spu2\" id=\"dfp_spu2\"><\/div>      <\/div>      <\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In addition to digital service platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, the rule also targeted<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>gym memberships, magazine subscriptions, and other subscription services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The blocked regulation was part of the Biden administration&#8217;s <b>&#8220;Time is Money&#8221;<\/b> initiative, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidency.ucsb.edu\/documents\/icymi-biden-harris-administration-launches-new-effort-crack-down-everyday-headaches-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched<\/a> last year to address consumer frustrations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In August last year, <b>Neera Tanden<\/b>, former White House domestic policy adviser, said: \u201cThe administration is cracking down on all the ways that companies, through paperwork, hold times and general aggravation waste people&#8217;s money and waste people&#8217;s time and really hold onto their money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The rule was challenged in court by the US Chamber of Commerce and a group of companies including Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, Disney Entertainment and Warner Bros.
