Born Peter Greenbaum in 1946, Green was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.<\/p>\n
His writing credits include Fleetwood Mac songs such as Albatross<\/em>, Black Magic Woman<\/em>, Oh Well<\/em>, The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)<\/em>, and Man of the World<\/em>.<\/p>\n Rolling Stone<\/em> ranked Green at No.58 in its list of the \u201c100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.\u201d<\/p>\n Commenting on the deal, Primary Wave\u2019s Robin Godfrey Cass said: \u201cWhen I look at the definition of a musical genius, Peter Green ticks every box. I am ecstatic that the estate has given Primary Wave the reins to continue his amazing legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n This partnership marks the latest Fleetwood Mac-related deal for Primary Wave.<\/p>\n In December 2020, the company acquired<\/a> a majority stake in the publishing catalog of another (later) Fleetwood Mac member, Stevie Nicks.\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0reported<\/a> at the time that Primary Wave bought an 80% interest in the copyrights, which its sources said were valued at approximately $100 million.<\/strong><\/p>\n Elsewhere, last month, Primary Wave partnered with<\/a> Grammy-nominated band the Cars.<\/p>\n In March, the company acquired<\/a> a stake in the Biggie Smalls catalog, which was reported to have valued the artist\u2019s estate at $200 million.<\/p>\n Primary Wave\u2019s portfolio also includes rights to works by\u00a0Bob Marley<\/a>,\u00a0Whitney Houston<\/a>,\u00a0Stevie Nicks<\/a>,\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Luther Vandross<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n The company\u2019s other recent moves include\u00a0signing<\/a>\u00a0a marketing and publishing administration deal with Grammy-winning songwriter and performer\u00a0Jimmy Webb<\/b>, along with deals with the estate of country and folk singer-songwriter\u00a0Jerry Jeff Walker<\/b><\/a>, Grammy-winning violinist\u00a0Itzhak Perlman<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0Feels So Good\u00a0<\/i>composer\u00a0Chuck Mangione<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Primary Wave has also recently acquired the catalog of\u00a0Nuno Bettencourt<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of 90s rock band\u00a0Extreme<\/strong>; inked a\u00a0publishing partnership<\/a>\u00a0with alt-rock band\u00a0The Spin Doctors<\/strong>; and signed a\u00a0music rights deal<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0Neil Finn<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0Crowded House<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The company also\u00a0struck a deal<\/a>\u00a0for the recorded, publishing, brand and name and likeness rights of\u00a0The Village People<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0YMCA<\/em>\u00a0fame; a\u00a0catalog deal<\/a>\u00a0with the estate of songwriter and musician\u00a0P.F. Sloan<\/strong>; and\u00a0a stake in the catalog<\/a>\u00a0of singer\/songwriter\u00a0Neil Sedaka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Primary Wave\u2019s acquisition spree has been powered by\u00a0a\u00a0$2 billion<\/strong>\u00a0partnership<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0Brookfield Asset Management<\/strong>\u00a0in 2022, which saw the firm take a minority stake in the New York-headquartered music publisher founded and led by\u00a0Larry Mestel<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Green began playing the guitar aged 10 and professionally by the early age of 18. In 1965, he would cross paths with Mick Fleetwood, but it wasn\u2019t until two years later that he would form Fleetwood Mac. While best known for his guitar work, Green quickly became a prominent songwriter and either wrote or contributed to many of Fleetwood Mac\u2019s songs.<\/p>\n Released in 1968, Albatross<\/em> is a guitar-based instrumental song off the band\u2019s English Rose album. The song saw success across several countries and to this day is the band\u2019s only No.1 hit in the UK.<\/p>\n Black Magic Woman<\/em>\u00a0also appeared on English Rose<\/em>. While the song did well for Fleetwood Mac, it was Santana\u2019s version of the song that really made it a hit.<\/p>\n Black Magic Woman<\/em>\u00a0was the first single off Santana\u2019s Abraxas<\/em> album. It reached the Top 4 in the US and Canada. Santana’s version spent 13 weeks on Billboard\u2019s Hot 100 chart.<\/p>\n Abraxas<\/em> topped the album chart and sold more than four million copies thanks to the success of Black Magic Woman<\/em>.<\/p>\n Oh Well<\/em>\u00a0was released in 1969 and appeared on Fleetwood Mac\u2019s Then Play On<\/em> album, as well as their Greatest Hits album that was released in 1971.<\/p>\n The song was composed in two parts, Part 1 as an A Side and Part 2 as a B Side.
