Warner, as previously announced, is only sharing Spotify proceeds with its partner labels when obligated to do so by individual contracts.<\/p>\n<p>MBW revealed earlier this year how Sony Music will be paying its artists and partner labels from its Spotify stock proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>In a surprise move, the Rob Stringer-led major will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/revealed-how-sonys-750m-spotify-equity-cash-will-be-shared-with-artists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ignore unrecouped balances when it pays its acts a chunk of its windfall &#8211; via checks that are scheduled to arrive with performers by the end of August.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unlike Warner, Sony will also be sharing these Spotify share profits will <em>all<\/em>\u00a0of its eligible partner labels.<\/p>\n<p>According to MBW&#8217;s analysis, Warner was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/heres-exactly-how-many-shares-the-major-labels-and-merlin-bought-in-spotify-and-what-we-think-those-stakes-are-worth-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">granted a 4% equity stake in Spotify as part of licensing deals first signed in 2008.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Due to dilution of stock from additional investors, we estimate, Warner ended up with approximately 2% of Spotify by the time the company floated in April.<\/p>\n<p>Warner Music Group&#8217;s total revenues grew 1.9% year-on-year at constant currency in its fiscal Q3 (calendar Q2), with a quarterly haul of $958m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A quarter of total gets credited to artist accounts<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":43971,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[2504,418],"class_list":["post-47645","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-steve-cooper","tag-warner-music-group"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47645","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=47645"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/47645\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/43971"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=47645"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=47645"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=47645"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
