{"id":78833,"date":"2020-02-26T09:48:15","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T09:48:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/?p=78833"},"modified":"2020-02-26T09:48:15","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T09:48:15","slug":"reservoir-invests-in-mena-via-poparabia-partnership-headed-by-spek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/reservoir-invests-in-mena-via-poparabia-partnership-headed-by-spek\/","title":{"rendered":"Reservoir invests in MENA via PopArabia partnership, headed by Spek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fast-growing rights company Reservoir has inked a fresh partnership with PopArabia \u2013 the music publisher and music rights consultancy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.<\/p>\n<p>The venture will see Spek returning to his post as President of PopArabia and leading Reservoir\u2019s international and emerging markets strategy, including the signing and development of local talent and export of Arabic and international music around the world, through this new joint venture and role.<\/p>\n<p>Founded by Spek in 2011, PopArabia was launched as a portfolio investment with support from twofour54, Abu Dhabi\u2019s media free zone, which counts CNN and Sky News Arabia among the hundreds of companies in its jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>PopArabia currently represents an estimated 60% of the market share of global music publishing repertoire and an array of recorded music in the region.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the new joint venture, PopArabia will assume the role of sub-publisher for all of Reservoir\u2019s copyrights in the area, including collecting and distributing royalties and licensing music for synch.<\/p>\n<p>Among PopArabia\u2019s recent accomplishments, the company cleared and licensed a sample for Coldplay\u2019s <em>Church<\/em>, the second track off the group\u2019s new studio album, <em>Everyday Life<\/em>.
