It will enable UMG to further develop in the Asian market.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Company statement today (March 31)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Don&#8217;t expect this to be the last we hear about minority stake sales in Universal Music Group, either.<\/p>\n<p>Vivendi said in an update today:\u00a0 &#8220;Now that this very significant strategic operation has been completed, Vivendi will pursue the possible sale of additional minority interests in UMG, assisted by several banks which it has mandated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It added: &#8220;Vivendi is very happy with the arrival of the Tencent-led consortium. It will enable UMG to further develop in the Asian market.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The company reiterated that an IPO of UMG \u2013 which would presumably spin the company out from Vivendi to some degree \u2013 is planned, for early 2023 at the latest.<\/p>\n<p>Vivendi said that it &#8220;intends to use the proceeds from these different transactions for substantial share buyback operations and acquisitions&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Universal Music Group, led by CEO &amp; Chairman Sir Lucian Grainge (pictured),\u00a0saw its overall revenues in 2019 \u2013 across recorded music, publishing and other activities \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/universal-is-now-an-8bn-a-year-company-as-streaming-revenues-surge-21-5-in-record-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hit \u20ac7.16bn ($8.04bn).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A record annual figure for the company under Vivendi ownership, that revenue number was up 14.0% year-on-year at constant currency and perimeter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Vivendi is very happy with the arrival of the Tencent-led consortium.
