Helen Smith is Executive Chair of Independent Music Companies Association, IMPALA – a pan-European industry body representing the interests of independent labels and distributors.<\/p>\n

Smith comes from a legal background, having studied law at the University of Strathclyde.<\/p>\n

She joined IMPALA in 2007 and is based in Brussels.<\/p>\n

Helen Smith: Career before IMPALA<\/h6>\n

Prior to joining IMPALA, Helen Smith was Co Managing Director of KEA European Affairs – an “an international policy design research centre” – in Brussels between 2003 and 2007.<\/p>\n

From 1999 to 2003, Smith was Director of Legal and Business Affairs at the Association of Independent Music (AIM), a trade body that represents the interests of independent labels, artists and distributors in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Before joining AIM in 2003, Smith was a Legal Adviser at\u00a0BPI<\/a>, the UK\u2019s trade body for the recorded music industry, representing both major and independent labels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
