{"id":99151,"date":"2023-08-22T19:00:06","date_gmt":"2023-08-22T18:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/?post_type=people&#038;p=99151"},"modified":"2023-08-22T19:02:10","modified_gmt":"2023-08-22T18:02:10","slug":"peter-leathem-obe","status":"publish","type":"people","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/people\/peter-leathem-obe\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Leathem OBE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peter Leathem OBE is CEO of the London-headquartered Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL).<\/p>\n<p>He has worked at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ppluk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PPL<\/a> since 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Leathem is a Trustee of the Ivors Academy Trust.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2022, it was confirmed that Leathem would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ppluk.com\/peter-leathem-ppl-ceo-awarded-obe-in-new-year-honours-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">receive an Order of the British Empire (OBE)<\/a> from the King of England for services to the music industry.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Peter Leathem: Career history<\/h6>\n<p>Peter Leathem started his career in 1994 at the law firm GSC Solicitors, eventually attaining Partner status.<\/p>\n<p>At GSC, Leathem was Head of the Intellectual Property Department and dealt primarily with intellectual property law. He remained with GSC until he joined PPL in 2002.<\/p>\n<p>Leathem\u2019s first role at PPL was as a Director of Legal &amp; Business Affairs and Rights Negotiation.<\/p>\n<p>Given that PPL is a British music copyright collective, Leathem\u2019s chief duties were dealing with copyright and IP law.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, Leathem was promoted to the role of Executive Director, giving him a broader focus at the organization.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in 2012, Leathem assumed the role of CEO of PPL.<\/p>\n<p>Leathem also holds positions at several other organizations related to music copyrights and royalties.<\/p>\n<p>He has been a Director at the British Copyright Council for over 12 years. He also acts in a directorial role at companies including Video Performance Ltd., National Discography Ltd., SCAPR, and UK Music Ltd. Leathem is the Chairman of the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine and a Board Trustee at the Ivors Academy Trust.<\/p>\n<p>PPL licenses music to broadcasters, nightclubs, bars, restaurants, and physical retailers.
